The brief

An unused outbuilding with little character of its own. The brief was to turn it into a sanctuary for guests — somewhere that felt like a natural extension of the house, not an afterthought at the bottom of the garden.

The approach

Practicality came first: considered storage, a dresser for getting ready, mirrors placed to draw in natural light, and a dedicated spot for luggage alongside a quiet corner for reading and unwinding. Wallpaper was introduced through the main space to add texture and warmth, with a layout designed so guests wake up to the garden view beyond.

The cloakroom presented its own challenge — a small, narrow footprint. Rather than fight the space, I leaned into it: a botanical wall mural, drawn from the same palette as the outhouse, creates the illusion of a much bigger room and gives guests a little world to get lost in.

The result

A guest space that feels welcoming, considered, and unmistakably part of the home it belongs to.
